Mom, wife and businesswoman; is there anything she can’t do?
“My mission: Fulfil God’s wishes – to be a supportive wife and mother, and make a positive impact on the working environment” said Bernice Smit Chief Operating Officer of Vovani Health.
It’s 2020 and women are booming, more women than ever are sitting at the head of boardroom meetings, more women are fighting for what they want and according to an Oxford study conducted last year more women are attending university than men.
Titles don't mean anything, let your actions determine who you are. This is how Bernice Smit takes lead. Not only is she making a huge difference and impact in the medical technological industry every day, but she is also a mother and a wife. And like the great Betty White said “It’s not easy being a mom. If it were easy, fathers would do it.”
Helping others is what Vovani Health is all about. And not only ourselves as human beings, Bernice said, but the planet as well. With Vovani Water we know that water is our most important resource. “We have to cherish and take care of it as much as we can.” For women, the water crisis is personal and it is critical. When women are empowered with safe clean water and toilets at home they are empowered to change their world. No longer burdened by the water crisis, they can care for their families and live up to their full potential.
Vovani Health is all about commitment, community and excellence. One customer is just as important to us as a company, said Bernice: “The service should always be the same, and that is what we want to be known for in our community.”
Speaking of community, Bernice said that as a woman she wants to make a difference in her community: “I always want to stay true to myself, care about the people around me and always be there for my family to count on.” It’s our job to still keep the routine in the household and make sure that everyone is taken care of, she added. “I think the world is going to change a lot in the medical, hygiene and health fields post-Covid,” she said.
“People are starting to realise they have to take better care of themselves. A mind shift has been made around a lot of topics. It’s becoming part of our lifestyle to be more hygienic for example.”
She said that in a world that is moving at a faster pace every day, you need a moment of silence. “You need to find beauty in everyday life; God didn’t put that there for just any reason.” Remember to smile under your mask by making time for your family and relationships she exclaimed. And don’t forget to make time for yourself, she warned: “I love taking a walk every day; self-care is just as important as caring for those around you. Otherwise, you will not be able to care at your fullest”.
"Bernice’s last golden nugget of wisdom and advice is to live simple, healthy, organised and anchored."
